My Attic - Exterior

Covering the structure with paperclay took many days, partly because I had to wait for Michaels to restock their shelves after I purchased the last package of Creative Paperclay.

I rolled the clay flat, then smeared glue on the wall and pressed the clay into place. I pressed stone shaped pieces onto the clay that I had pressed on the wall. After drying for 24 hours or so, I went back to touch-up the areas where the clay had shrunk and cracked when it dried. In this picture, on the left you can see what the stones looked like before touchup. On the right, the cracks have been filled in.

In this picuture, the whole wall has been covered with clay, and the cracks have been filled.

Next, I painted the clay with grey acrylic paints. After it had dried, I painted each stone, with various colors of acrylic paint.

Finally, I used a wash of grey paint over the entire surface, to soften the contrast between the stones and the "mortar". In this picture, the stones on the left have not had the wash of grey, and the stones on the right are finished.
