At the workshop, we were provided the foamcore pieces for the walls,
floor, and ceiling of the room, shingles (which I replaced with my
own), the hexagon window, the siding and corner trim, and a bag full
of goodies which we could use to fill the room. We learned how to
assemble the box, and how to make the stained glass for the window.
We could also purchase pre-cut plexiglas to cover the open sides, and
we learned how to join the plexiglas at right angles. I added my own dormer window. I also discovered later that the plexiglas pieces had not been cut correctly, but I took care of that later with my scroll saw. The cover was removed for the photographs on this page.
I consider this my 'Internet' roombox. I found out about the workshop
through Nona, whom I know on-line. At first, I could not decide
what I was going to put in the attic, but then I participated in a
wedding dress contest hosted by Debi Kolenchuk of
Embraceables. Debi provided
a pattern, and we were encouraged to make our own version of a
wedding dress, using her pattern. We sent pictures, and people were
able to vote for their favorite dresses. I won 2nd place, and my
prize was a lovely wicker chair! After receiving my chair, I knew
that I had to display it with the wedding dress.
Other items in this roombox are gifts and swaps from on-line friends.
The hat was made by Carolyn. She discretely asked me what color the
roses on my wedding dress were, so that she could make a hat to go with
it! On the table, next to the hat stand is a tomato pincushion, given
to me by my friend Eleanor, who lives in Toronto. The 'fiestaware' with
the floral arrangement was a gift from my friend Jan, in Southern
California. The arrangement was made by Kathy of "Itty Bitties by Kitty'.
The brown hat in the front of the roombox was made by Stef in Germany.
I made the hatstand, the table, and the hatboxes. The mirror and cat were
purchased by me.
