Kitchen Kitbash

The kit that I used was made by Scientific Models, and it was designed so that the counter and wall cabinets measured 11 inches long. The outer wall of the kitchen of the Tennyson measures 11 inches long, however, if I were to have used the kit the way it was designed, the counters would have interfered with the appearance of the bay windows. Plus, I wanted to center the table in the bay window area, and didn't want the counters to be in the way. To alter the kit, I divided the one counter into two. I had to cut two extra end pieces, and some extra face frame pieces.

The kit was also designed so that the cabinet doors and drawers did not really open. I build some drawer boxes and installed some shelves in the cabinets. I also made my own hinges. If you are curious about how I did it, e-mail me. :-)

I also changed the cabinet doors to be panel doors, something I have in my real kitchen and really like. I cut the door frames from scrap wood and used a Dremel tool with a drill press stand to route the frames to house the panels. The upper cabinets flanking the sink have 'glass' doors so that I can display some dishes.

I even modified the refrigerator. I did not like the shelves in the fridge so I made my own. I don't have a picture of the interior of the fridge, but the shelves are made with acrylic so they resemble glass.
